Stand 25 Bisztro
HUNGARIAN RESTAURANT IN BUDAPEST
Attila út, 10
+36 30 961 3262
If you want to taste one of the best Hungarian restaurants in Budapest, you need to get yourself to Stand 25 located in the big market hall on Hold utca. Their goulash soup is the best in town (my Hungarian friend said so)! The vibe is cozy and the ingredients are top quality. Definitely order the “rakott kumpli”, it’s a typical Hungarian dish with layered potatoes, just watch out because it’s served super hot! Reservations are musts!
Tokio
JAPANESE FUSION RESTAURANT IN BUDAPEST
Széchenyi tér, 7-8
+36 70 333 2176
Located on the Pest side of the Chain Bridge, literally 20 meters from the Four Seasons Hotel, you’ll find Tokio, a trendy Japanese fusion restaurant in Budapest. The setting is very cool, and along the funky decor and L-shaped bar that changes color depending on the music, there is also a Dj playing some lounge music. It’s the perfect setting for a cool get-together. Must-orders are the chicken gyoza, the tempura, the harumaki, the tamago kome, the salmon avocado rolls, the season 3 rolls and the salmon sashimi. Yummy! In summer, they even serve food al fresco. Reservations are musts.
Trattoria Pomo D’Oro
ITALIAN RESTAURANT IN BUDAPEST
Arany János utca, 9
+36 1 302 6473
If you’re craving some Italian food in Budapest, you need to get yourself to Pomo D’Oro. Picture Italian music in the background, wood everywhere and yummy food. Pomo D’Oro is a typical Italian trattoria, but more refined. You’ll definitely fall in love with the setting, and with their pizzas too. Not into pizza? Order the cappellacci di gamberi e branzino all vongole veraci con pesto leggero (cappellacci pasta filled with seabass and shrimp with clams and a light pesto sauce). Runner up are the pumpkin ravioli with spinach on a parmesan fondue.
Pierrot
AUSTRO-HUNGARIAN RESTAURANT IN BUDAPEST
Fortuna u. 14
+36 1 375 6971
The Castle district has got to be the most charming area of Budapest. It’s so fairylike I could stay there all day. And for a contemporary Austrian/Hungarian dining experience Pierrot is the place to go. Just a few meters down the street from St. Matthias’s church is where you’ll find this elegant bistrot. The dimmed lights, cozy decor and the sound of the piano keys filling the air will definitely create an unforgettable vibe. Try the seabream carpaccio with lemon cider and confit tomatoes as a starter, or the three foie gras. For a delicate soup, the spinach cream with quail eggs and truffles is amazing.
Deryne Bisztro
INTERNATIONAL RESTAURANT IN BUDAPEST
Krisztina tér 3
+36 1 225 1407
This stylish bistro on the Buda side of the Danube is a must when it comes to a good international meal. A beautiful outdoor patio adorned with string lights, and a cool indoor vibe with live music awaits you! It’s no wonder Deryne Bisztro is a meeting place for artists, movie starts, designers and writers. Start off with a plate of oysters and a bubbly prosecco or champagne, they have the best oyster and caviar selection in Budapest. For a main course, definitely go for a steak or a classic wiener shnitzel or duck leg confit.
Akademia Italia
ITALIAN RESTAURANT IN BUDAPEST
Szent István tér 12
+36 1 301 0563
Just a stone’s throw away from St. Stephen’s Basilica you’ll find this delicious Italian gastronomic shop and restaurant. The pizzas are yummy and oven-baked and for all Aperol Spritz lovers, Akademia knows how to make a mean one! During wintertime, warm up with a plate of hot tortellini in brodo. And why not stop for a bubbly prosecco in their outdoor dining area for aperitivo?
Kollázs
FRENCH-HUNGARIAN RESTAURANT IN BUDAPEST
Széchenyi István tér 5-6
+36 1 268 5408
Sitting right in front of the Chain Bridge, inside the glorious Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace, you’ll find this chic restaurant. The menu offers a mix of Hungarian and French brasserie dishes with a twist. From the croque madame to the goulash soup and the rib eye steak, if you’re into French flavors, Kollázs is for you. The interior is a reflection of the coffee house Art Nouveau style of the 1910s and ’20s. During the good season, step outside and dine in the beautiful patio overlooking the Danube River.
Fausto’s
ITALIAN RESTAURANT IN BUDAPEST
Dohány u. 5
+36 1 269 6806
If you’re searching for the Italian fine dining experience in Budapest, Fausto’s is THE place to go. Situated in the 7th district, just a footstep away from the Synagogue, you’ll find this amazing Italian restaurant. It’s known as an institution here in Budapest, and I sure understand why. For starters, there are two Fausto’s: the Osteria and the Restaurant. I’ve only been to the Osteria, which is open for both lunch and dinner. You can’t miss out on the exquisite octopus with asparagus, absolutely incredible. As is the asparagus soup and the Mediterranean fish soup!
