The best Italian restaurants in Budapest
I’m Italian, and you can trust me when I say that if you’re searching for the Italian fine dining experience in Budapest, Fausto’s is THE place to go. Situated in the 7th district, just a footstep away from the Synagogue, you’ll find this amazing Italian restaurant. It’s known as an institution here in Budapest, and I sure understand why.
For starters, there are two Fausto’s: the Osteria and the Restaurant. I’ve only been to the Osteria, which is open for both lunch and dinner, twice. And I can’t wait to go back (in Italian we say non c’è due senza tre meaning there is no two without three), so I’m sure I’ll be back shortly!
The Osteria is more laid back but it still has a chic and minimal ambiance, with just a few tables that make the atmosphere intimate.
The service is top notch. They are extremely kind and professional but also friendly. And then there’s Fausto, the owner, whom I’ve had the pleasure of meeting, and who guided us in our wine selection.
Speaking about wine, I was almost forgetting: wine lovers, you will LOVE this place! They have an incredible wine list. If you’re into Pinto Grigio or Sauvignon, try Fausto’s, it’s wonderful.
Coming to the menu, it’s not very extensive but it sure is perfect.
You can’t miss out on the exquisite octopus with asparagus, absolutely incredible. As is the asparagus soup and the Mediterranean fish soup!
I’ve also tried the linguine with salmon and arugula, amazing! As well as the spinach and ricotta mint-filled ravioli with a tomato sauce, to die for!
The desserts are also delicious, the chefs surprised me with a mango soufflé, and the second time I tried the caramel pannacotta!
To end the meal in perfection, you have to order the sweet wine. There is one that is in my top list of all time, I took a picture of it and showed it to them next time (and even my boyfriend who is not the biggest fan of sweet wine fell in love with it)! Save the name!
For a wonderful lunch or dinner with your partner, family or friends, I cannot recommend Fausto’s enough. Truly a place that was love at first taste! Don’t forget to make a reservation (even two days before on the weekend)!
