Where to eat and drink in the Parioli neighbourhood, Rome

Located in Northern Rome, Parioli is one of the Eternal City’s most stylish neighbourhoods. Full of beautiful 1930s palazzi and luxurious restaurants and bars, it’s definitely the place for a nice relaxing break. Begin your break during happy hour, then move along to dinner and after-dinner drinks!

Duke’s

Dinner at Duke’s is spectacular. They serve mind-blowing Californian/Italian cuisine in a trendy setting. To start off, the atmosphere is just perfect: the American-style design with modern wood panelling and the chill-out vibes in the background set the tone.

The crowd is a mix of locals and internationals of all ages and the service is exceptional. The menu changes with the seasons, but certain dishes stay the same. My absolute favourite dishes are the oriental ravioli, the timberland quail, the Kingfish Tataki and the Duke’s rib-eye steak.

The wine selection is phenomenal and includes lots of international wines, mainly focusing on Californian, Italian, French and Chilean whites and reds.

Ambasciata D’Abruzzo

Ambasciata D’Abruzzo is an institution. Ask anyone and they will know this restaurant. It’s located just a short walk away from Piazza Euclide, and serves some of the best traditional Roman and Abruzzo cuisine ever. Ambasciata D’Abruzzo is renowned for its cold cuts and pastas.

But it’s also an exceptional place to savour seafood and meat. We had a risotto alla pescatora to share (outstanding), Roman style artichokes (one of the best I’ve ever had) and oven-cooked seabass with roasted potatoes (sublime). The wine selection is also exceptional and extensive.

And the service is first-class: kind, friendly and very professional. If you’re searching for a relaxed place to dine in the Parioli neighbourhood, with outstanding traditional cuisine, wonderful service and great price-quality ratio, get yourself a reservation to Ambasciata D’Abruzzo.

ZERO

If you’re searching for a place to have a delicious healthy lunch, ZERO is the place to go! They serve yummy Asian-Italian cuisine right off Piazza Ungheria, just a 10-minute drive from the center. The food at ZERO is delightful and all of the ingredients are fresh!

What’s unique about the menu is that the dishes are categorized according to their calories and cooking technique! It’s the perfect place for lunch, even if you’re on a diet! My favourite dish is the fresh octopus salad accompanied by cherry tomatoes, potatoes and zucchini, I cannot explain enough how delicious this dish is! And equally tasty is the tuna tartare with apples wedges.

Another A-lister at ZERO are the desserts! I recommend you order the  passion fruit cheesecake or the exquisite carrot cake with pistachio ice-cream, they will blow you away!

Big Al

Immerse yourself in a trendy and stylish setting at Parioli’s Big Al. Beautiful interior decor paired with dimmed lights and background music create the perfect setting.

The food at Big Al is yummy, with a creative Italian seafood and meat menu. And for wine enthusiasts, get ready for the wonderful wine selection!

There’s the possibility to dine outside as well, but take it from somebody who knows, don’t miss out on the beautiful interior design of Big Al and dine inside! The staff is very nice and professional. Big Al is the perfect place for a romantic date or a delicious dinner out with your friends.

Caminetto

A classic. If you need a traditional Roman restaurant in Rome’s Parioli neighbourhood, Caminetto is it! The vast menu includes seafood, meat and pasta dishes.

The fried antipasti are delicious as are the pasta dishes! The staff is friendly and efficient and the decor is classic and intimate with warm colors and a beautiful veranda overlooking the tree-lined Viale Parioli.

The price/quality is great at Caminetto! Definitely a must-try!

The best aperitivo in Parioli, Rome

Duke’s

Swing by at 7pm and have the best happy hour in Rome. You won’t find anything like it  in terms of variety, presentation and price. Food and drinks are 50% off during happy hour, it’s the perfect time to taste those Duke’s signature cocktails, and there is one in particular  you have to try: the COSMOPOLITAN! 

Along with great cocktails (and/or wine and beer) order some delicious food from all over the world,  from guacamole to tempura and sushi all the way to filet mignon bites with different yummy sauces. My favourites are the footloose, angus tartare, angus royal, tuna tartare and the tempura. Definitely don’t arrive here after 7pm as you’ll have to wait in line for a table! Happy hour is served outside, at the bar and in one of the areas inside. The outdoor area is heated in the winter.

Gotha Roma Cocktail Bar

Happy hour or after dinner? This is surely a dilemma. Gotha is a guarantee. It’s one of my favorite places in Parioli for a happy hour or an after dinner drink. The place is chic, mostly frequented by Italians.

The wine selection is exceptional, with labels like Banfi and Jerman. But let’s get to happy hour! Gotha has delicious happy hour boards to offer! From prosciutto and salame to cheese and small pizzas, Gotha serves some real good cold-cuts and cheeses!

There is also the sushi option, but I always prefer to go with the classic happy hour board! The staff at this bar is wonderful, very friendly! Definitely stop by at this bar for happy hour!

Ercoli 1928

Cured meats, cold-cuts and cheeses await you at Ercoli Parioli. Expect delicious happy hour boards, outstanding wines, a friendly staff and  a Vermouth bar!

Ercoli is the perfect place to indulge in Italian and international treats, from patanegra to parma ham, to truffled cheeses and different types of breads, this is happy hour oasis!

There’s both an indoor and outdoor area, the indoor looks like a mix between a shop and a bistrot, and has a Salumeria counter where you can admire all of the fresh products (and even buy them)!

Gianfornaio

Indulge in an all-pizza happy hour at Gianfornaio! Known as an institution in Rome for its outstanding pizza, and with more locations spread around the Eternal City, il Gianfornaio is the perfect place for a relaxing aperitivo.

From 6pm – 8.30pm they serve an unlimited all-pizza happy hour buffet. Order your cocktail, beer or wine glass and help yourself to the happy hour buffet as many times as you want!
