The best restaurants in Monti, Rome

If it’s delicious Roman cuisine you’re searching for, Trattoria Monti has got to be on your list. Situated just a few steps away from the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore, this cozy trattoria in Rome’s Monti neighbourhood is the perfect place to stop by for a relaxing lunch break, especially after you’ve visited the Basilica.

As you step inside, you’ll be wrapped around by a cozy atmosphere and a lovely staff that will make you feel at home. The restaurant is small and cozy, with not too many tables, creating the perfect homey atmosphere.

The cream-colored walls blend with the art paintings and the beautiful bricked arches. And at the end of the restaurant, you’ll find the small open kitchen where you can admire the chefs in action!

Trattoria Monti is synonymous of kindness and warmth. The staff is friendly and efficient, and the menu – while not very extensive – is delicious, and has some specials of the day that are definitely worth your attention!

I definitely recommend the outstanding cod carpaccio with tropea onion and black truffle shaving, it’s simply perfect: tender, juicy, fresh and explosive with flavour, in other words, a must (too bad my boyfriend ordered it and I had to steal it from him)! Another delicious starter – and this is a must if you like fried antipasti – is the fried olives, zucchini flowers and ciauscolo.

To continue, the homemade ravioli filled with grouper are an absolute must, while if you want to try a more Roman dish, the homemade tagliatelle with with fave, cicoria and pecorino are delightful.

But always pay attention to Trattoria Monti’s specials of the day! And to accompany your meal, you may choose from a good wine selection or go with the wonderful house wine (I tried the white house wine and it was wonderful)! Don’t forget to make a reservation!
