The best Lake Balaton wineries and vineyards
Just a two-hour drive from beautiful Budapest you’ll find Lake Balaton, also nicknamed the “Hungarian Sea”. It’s the largest lake in Central Europe and it’s one of the most popular Hungarian attractions. From spring to fall, people come to Lake Balaton to see its wow music festivals, sunbathe, relax and just live the life.
And you know why I like to come here? For the WINE TASTING! For your information, Hungary has really good wineries! The wine production here is great, and the Balaton region is no exception! Perched up on a hill in the Badacsony region, we found Laposa Birtok, the cutest little winery you could ever hope to stumble upon!
Walk up the cobble-stoned path and get ready to be greeted by a stunning terrace overlooking the vineyards and Lake Balaton! We actually thought we’d be having lunch here but it turns out Laposa Birtok is all about giving you the perfect wine tasting experience! So we ordered the cheese platter, the fresh homemade bread basket and the cold-cuts platter!
They were delicious (and the presentation was top-notch as well)! The cheese was fantastic, I have no idea what the names are but they were truly phenomenal. As were the cold cuts, my favorite being the smoked speck! YUMMY!
For the wine, we had a couple of glasses of Pinot each but I’m definitely planning to try more wines next time I go (which will be very soon by the way)! They have a nice wine list and of course you can also purchase different wine bottles (and I really urge you to do so)!
But it’s not just the wine and the food that are first-class, the whole scenery is breathtaking! There are two terraces at Laposa Birtok, one is right in the middle of the vineyards and the other is covered so that you don’t boil under the sun during the really hot season!
I LOVED the whole setting. Laposa Birtok is wonderful because it’s able to merge its architecture to the stunning scenery. And the service is so friendly! If you have any questions on the wine, they definitely know how to help you out!
When’s the perfect time to come to Laposa Birtok? ALWAYS! From spring to fall, this place is just perfect! Just make sure you make a reservation beforehand. From May it’s best you call quite in advance, even weeks in advance as Hungarians start escaping from the cities to relax here!

Oo I want to go tomorrow!! Are there any buses that go there?
You should! Remember to make a reservation!! Hmm I went by car, but I checked and there are both trains and buses to get there! The fastest way to get there appears by train. You should go to the railway station on the Buda side and take the Budapest-Deli train all the way to Badacsony! Then you’ll have to walk a bit to get to Laposa Birtok as its on a hill, but when you get there it’s going to be completely worth it! Let me know if you liked it! 🙂
